Devotional - I Almost Quit Born to Fly… Here’s Why I Didn’t
READ TIME: 2 minutes
Dear Reader,
Please read till the end, that’s where I need you!
About three years ago, I closed the door of our rental house in Toronto for the last time, heartbroken.
I didn't know what the future would bring, only that it would bring me back to the same country as my family—our wish after a pandemic in which we received our 1st child but couldn't travel to see family, separated by an ocean.
With a future unknown, I had to let go of certainty: a life with friends, an amazing church, and Born to Fly in the “city within a park” that I loved so much.
Being back in the Netherlands, it took me a year to get over the grief I felt for our life in “the Six.”
It took me another year to settle down, accept, and set up a life in the Netherlands.
Even if you move back to your home country, after 4.5 years, everything looks different.
You have to earn your place back—we didn't see that coming.
Loneliness could run rampant. How glad I am that I experienced God then (Psalm 23:4).
Every day, when I turned to Him with teary eyes, asking Him if He could change my heart, He gently comforted me.
Sometimes with a Bible verse.
Other times with encouraging messages of Born to Fly’s members.
God transformed me and pulled me through these crazy feelings, emotions, and process of mourning—because that's what it was.
Through Him, I started building a life again. Thanks to Him I am where I am today.
Born to Fly was born in 2019.
And despite all the changes and my transformation, it's still there. Although it's taken on a different form than when it started, I'm reaching more people with it than ever before.
Interesting, right? I didn’t think it would survive.
I thought about quitting a couple of times. But the last time when I mulled over it, God planted the idea in my heart and mind to commit for 10 years first.
True commitment through all the changes, both for Born to Fly and in my life; from 0 to 3 kids and from Canada to the Netherlands.
6 years down, 4 to go.

I started Born to Fly because I long for peers on this entrepreneurship journey.
It evolved from a Meetup group into a paid online community with weekly check-ins to keep each other accountable.
We organized mastermind sessions, book clubs and even a retreat.
Then it was pruned to a content-based platform with a newsletter, tailored to “parentpreneurs” who want to work more efficiently, because that’s what I can do now.
But what DO YOU WANT?
Putting my energy into something for 10 years only works if it’s valuable to you. Let me know what is.
What would be valuable?
What opportunities do you see here?
I got ideas, but I’d love to hear yours.
EMAIL me your feedback at hello@borntofly.faith!
Blessings,
Jane
