Is Grammarly worth it?

READ TIME: 2.5 minutes

Dear Reader,

Do you regularly write content, emails, blogs, or other texts?

Then you might want to give Grammarly a try.

(just like with Prayminder: I’m not getting paid by Grammarly)

Grammarly is a tool that helps you improve your grammar and spelling.

Ultimately, Grammarly helps you to send out error-free writing — texts that are easy to read and fit your target audience.

Grammarly would be pretty useless for my mother tongue, Dutch.

They don’t support it.

But if you write in English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, or Spanish, Grammarly has you covered.

As a non-native English speaker, it’s an indispensable tool for me to get my writing in the best possible shape.

I strive for excellence — do everything as unto God — and this helps me reach that within

my abilities.

So how does Grammarly work?

You can use it in two ways:

  • As a plug-in

  • Within your online Grammarly account

The plug-in is amazing. Grammarly basically keeps an eye on your writing at all times. So whether you’re working in Google Docs or typing an email, you instantly get suggestions.

It looks like this:

The red underline indicates that something might be off. In this case, it's true. Grammarly explains the issue (wrong verb form) and gives you the correct one: “looking.”

Within the online editor, you can go even further.

See the example below (hopefully the screenshot is visible).

At the top, you see my score. It’s 82. That’s pretty good, but we want to get as close to 100 as possible. You do that by applying Grammarly’s suggested improvements.

You can set goals for each document.

Should it sound informal or formal?

What tone do you want to use?

Is your audience familiar with the topic? etc.

Grammarly takes all that into account when reviewing your text.

You see all Grammarly’s comments next to my writing.

It evaluates my text for correctness, clarity, engagement, delivery, and style guide per category.

Easy, right?

Even with the free version, you can already achieve a lot.

I use the premium version, and honestly, it’s worth every penny.

So, to sum up → Grammarly: yes or no?

That depends.

Do you write regularly?

Do you want your writing to make a better impression?

Do you want to improve grammar and spelling?

Do you want more flow, readability, and correctness?

Do you write in English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, or Spanish?

If yes, then I think Grammarly is the perfect tool to optimize your writing.

Do you use a similar tool?

Or another one you want others to know of?

Let me know!

Blessings,
